Cellular Health is the key to a strong immune system

Having a strong immune system is not just important in the flu season, but throughout the whole year. It is our body’s defense against infection and illness. Our immune system is a very complex system of the human body and works on a cellular level.

K-age™ is an innovative proprietary synergistic complex obtained from Polygonum cuspidatum and Olea europea which provides biologically enhanced trans-Resveratrol.
K-age™ aims to prevent and repair cellular damage caused by free radicals, protects cells from Oxidative stress, stimulates the regeneration of cells and prevents the accumulation of damaged components in the cell by increasing proteasome levels and decreasing the levels of oxidized proteins.

Olea europea (fruits)

Olive Polyphenols prevent and repair cellular damage caused by free radicals, prevent oxidation of low density lipoproteins, reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, improve glucose metabolism and skin health. More recently, studies have revealed that olive polyphenols  are related also other important  activities including anti-amyloidogenic activity, cell signaling modulation, effects on telomere length and modulation of the sirtuin proteins. Olive Polyphenols are able to cross the blood—brain barrier with multiple effects on pathways involved in neurodegeneration and ageing may be proven efficacious in the treatment of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum (root)

Resveratrol a powerful polyphenol found in several types of plants, including red grapes, blueberries, and nuts. Resveratrol works inside every cell in the body to help rejuvenate the mitochondria, the powerhouses that keep cells functioning properly.
Scientific evidence suggests that it can also help promote healthy aging in humans and animals. Several lab studies have shown that it may improve cellular health, in particular by activating sirtuins Resveratrol is drawing a lot of attention in the scientific community with over 1100 studies published in 2016 alone; the total number of publications on resveratrol now exceeds 10,000, making it one of the fastest growing bodies of evidence for a health and wellness ingredient. This published research and clinical data suggests that resveratrol can play a role in healthy aging through maintaining bone health, cardiovascular health, blood glucose control, healthy cognitive function, skin youthfulness and oral health.

Rosa canina (fruits)

Rosa canina is a wild shrub species found throughout Europe as well as other temperate parts of the world. Its fruit, commonly known as rose hip or dog rose, is a favorite of traditional medicine and highly nutritious. Rose hip has been shown to contain great amounts of vitamin C, to which it owes its strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well as its slightly sour, acidic taste. Several studies suggest the fruit can significantly reduce pain and improve mobility in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers as a result of its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Rose hip alleviates joint pain through its immunosuppressive effects. The immune system can contribute to rheumatic diseases. An inflammatory cytokine called Interleukin 1-Beta (IL-1β) causes cartilage cells to produce proteins that digest and break down join tissue. In moderation, this process encourages cell turnover, but in excess, this process contributes to long-term joint tissue degradation, which is what causes joint problems. While rose hip doesn’t reduce IL-1β levels in the blood, it interferes with its ability to activate catabolic proteins.
Rose hip is also able to reduce chemotaxis, which is the transportation of immune cells into tissue. This serves as both an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive mechanism.

Andrographis paniculata

Andrographis paniculata, also known as kalmegh in Ayurvedic medicine, is a flowering plant native to India and Sri Lanka. The leaves and stems of andrographis have been used in traditional Asian medicine for centuries. Some of its traditional uses include helping with diabetes, dysentery, flu & cold infections, bronchitis, and digestive issues. Clinical research confirms that andrographis has a number of beneficial properties, including anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immunostimulatory activities. Today andrographis is particularly popular in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries for fighting off cold & flu infections. The precise mechanisms behind the immunity benefits of andrographis are not yet known. However scientific studies demonstrating, increased macrophage & natural killer cell activity, enhanced production of antigens to counter harmful microbes and improved phagocytosis. Andrographolide, the main active ingredient of andrographis, has been shown to disrupt viruses by interfering with their replication. Andrographis supplements are used to support overall immune function, which includes fighting off colds, influenza, and other acute respiratory infections. There is significant amount of research evidence to back these uses, so much so that andrographis extracts have become a common method for protecting against cold and flu infections in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries.
Research and a long history of use have proven andrographis to be highly effective for helping with seasonal cold and flu infections, which is the main reason most people take immune system boosters

Punica Granatum (fruits)

Pomegranates can help prevent or treat various disease risk factors including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, oxidative stress, hyperglycemia, and inflammatory activities. It is demonstrated that certain components of pomegranate such as polyphenols have potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic effects. The antioxidant potential of pomegranate  is more than that of red wine and green tea, which is induced through ellagitannins and hydrosable tannins. Pomegranate can reduce macrophage oxidative stress, free radicals, and lipid peroxidation. Moreover, pomegranate fruit extract prevents cell growth and induces apoptosis, which can lead to its anticarcinogenic effects. In addition, promoter inhibition of some inflammatory markers and their production are blocked via ellagitannins.

Vitis vinifera (fruits)

The dietary consumption of grape and its products is associated with a lower incidence of degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancers. Most recent interest has focused on the bioactive phenolic compounds in grape. Anthocyanins, flavanols, flavonols and resveratrol are the most important grape polyphenols because they possess many biological activities, such as antioxidant, cardioprotective, anticancer, anti-inflammation, antiaging and antimicrobial properties.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Clinical research demonstrates that Niacin, is a highly efficient precursor to NAD+. Incorporating Niacin into the body has been shown to restore NAD+ levels in laboratory models, combating age-related decline in the NAD+ supply that cells experience. Preclinical studies link the restoration of NAD+ supplies to an improvement in metabolic efficiency and overall health. A recent article published in the Journal Nature, by a team from China, presents new evidence suggesting that niacin or vitamin B3 may help strengthen the lungs and protect the tissue. The article suggests starting vitamin B3 when you develop a cough may offer some protection from the potential damage the virus can cause.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D has important roles in addition to its classic effects on calcium and bone homeostasis. As the vitamin D receptor is expressed on immune cells (B cells, T cells and antigen presenting cells) and these immunologic cells are all are capable of synthesizing the active vitamin D metabolite, vitamin D has the capability of acting in an autocrine manner in a local immunologic milieu. Vitamin D can modulate the innate and adaptive immune responses. Deficiency in vitamin D is associated with increased autoimmunity as well as an increased susceptibility to infection.
